Anterior chamber depth measurement in teenagers. Comparison of two techniques
2013
Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the anterior chamber depth (ACD) in teenagers using two different devices: partial coherence interferometry IOLMaster (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (Visante TM OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec) and to evaluate the degree of agreement between ACD measurements carried out by both instruments. Methods: In this prospective study 68 eyes of 34 emmetropic Caucasic patients (18 girls and 16 boys) were analysed. ACD was measured from the anterior corneal surface to anterior surface of the crystalline lens. For each age the ACD size was calculated and the difference between IOLMaster and Visante-OCT measurements was analy…
The "sandwich technique" for iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens implantation.
2006
ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To describe a new technique of implantation of the Artisan/Verisyse phakic intraocular lens (PIOL). METHODS: After PIOL insertion into the anterior chamber, a bolus of a high viscosity ophthalmic viseosurgical device (OVD) is placed over the optic, separating it widely from the endothelium. RESULTS: The technique decreases the chance of endothelial damage during enclavation. CONCLUSIONS: A bolus of a high viscosity OVD placed on the anterior surface of the Artisan/Verisyse PIOL may make enclavation safer. [J Refract Surg. 2006;22:96-98.]
Scheimpflug biometry of the anterior segment after implantation of foldable iris-fixated lenses.
2006
ABSTRACT PURPOSE: To evaluate intraocular dimensions of the anterior segment of myopic phakic eyes after implantation of foldable iris-fixated lenses. METHODS: Seventeen myopic eyes that received a foldable iris-fixated phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) were assessed. Distances between the cornea and the IOLoptic edge and between the IOL optic and the crystalline lens were evaluated using Scheimpf lug photography 3 months postoperatively. RESULTS: The average postoperative distance between the central corneal endothelium and the anterior surface of the IOL was 2.01±0.26 mm. The distance between the corneal endothelium and the peripheral edge of the IOL averaged 1.32±0.18 mm at the 12 o'clock p…
Nd:YAG-Laserung einer retrohyaloidalen Blutung nach Venenastverschluss
2006
Background A retrohyaloidal haemorrhage can be caused by different underlying diseases. Usually dense haemorrhages are treated by early vitrectomy. We want to report the successful treatment of a retrohyaloidal haemorrhage by means of Nd:YAG laser membranotomy. Materials and methods A 47-year-old man noticed two weeks before presentation a sudden visual loss in the left eye. Visual acuity on the first visit was c. c. 20/32 OD and c. c. 20/400 ex. OS. Dilated fundus examination of the left eye showed multiple intraretinal haemorrhages in the superior periphery and a dense retrohyaloidal haemorrhage over the macula. Anamnestic risk factors for ocular bleeding were systemic hypertension in con…
Composite graft: a simple option for nasal lining.
2007
Background We present our experience in the reconstruction of full-thickness losses of the substance of the nose using a forehead flap and a composite graft (taken from the anterior surface of the concha and adequately shaped) as both support and endonasal lining. This technique has never been described for the reconstruction of large full-thickness losses of the substance of the nose. The donor site of the composite graft in the concha is repaired by a Masson retroauricular flap. Methods This technique was used on 14 patients (age range, 52–92 years) after full-thickness excision of tumors of the distal third of the nose. Follow-up was from 1 to 4 years. All the composite grafts were rev…
